Strategy + planning are two of the most important steps to getting what we want. I love this quote by Peter Drucker because it reminds me of exactly that. He says: “The best way to predict the future is to create it.”
A few years ago my husband and I took a weekend trip to St. Louis for his parents’ anniversary. We were excited to get away. However, for some reason, no one had done any planning for what we would do when we got there. Usually, my mother-in-law and I have a whole spreadsheet of data, ready for a structured and pre-planned vacation!
As a result, we didn’t get to take a tour of Busch Stadium. Nor did we get to go up to the top of the Gateway Arch. We did, however, spent a whole lot of time hanging out in our hotel room, playing Candy Crush, and trying to find something we could do that didn’t require a pre-purchased ticket.
The only thing I can remember us doing that entire weekend was a walk-up tour of the Anheuser-Busch Brewery. There was no strategy + planning for this trip at all. Honestly, this was not my idea of a vacation well-spent as I’m not really much of a beer drinker. (I don’t like to taste my alcohol…lol).
But when you create a strategy + plan around what you actually WANT, you are much more likely to get it.
